Civil Services Exam 2024: UPSC Declares Final Result, Shakti Dubey Tops with 3 Women in Top 5

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2024, recommending 1,009 candidates for various elite government positions including the IAS, IPS, IFS, and other Central Group A and B Services. The results have sparked widespread celebration, particularly due to the empowering performance of women candidates this year.

Shakti Dubey, a native of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as the All India Rank 1 topper, marking a proud moment not just for her family and state but for aspiring civil servants across the country. A graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad and an alumna of Banaras Hindu University, Dubey began her UPSC journey in 2018. She cracked the prestigious exam with Political Science and International Relations as her optional subject, proving once again that hard work and consistency are key to success in India’s toughest exam.

The 2024 Civil Services Examination witnessed over 9.92 lakh registrations, and among the 1,009 successful candidates, 28% are women. Most notably, three out of the top five ranks have been secured by women, showcasing a positive shift towards greater gender parity in the country’s civil administration. The top five rank holders are: Shakti Dubey (Rank 1), Harshita Goyal (Rank 2), Dongre Archit Parag (Rank 3), Shah Margi Chirag (Rank 4), and Akash Garg (Rank 5).

The UPSC reported that there were 1,129 vacancies across various services this year, including 180 posts for IAS, 147 for IPS, and 55 for IFS. The remaining positions are distributed among other Group A and B central services. The selected candidates will undergo training at premier institutions like the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie and other service-specific academies before taking on official duties.

A key highlight from this year’s result is the academic diversity of the successful candidates. The top 25 rankers chose a wide array of optional subjects including Public Administration, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Philosophy, Mathematics, Commerce & Accountancy, Physics, Geography, and Tamil Literature. This underscores the inclusive and multidisciplinary nature of the UPSC exam, where candidates from all academic backgrounds stand an equal chance of success.

Several candidates shared that the path to cracking UPSC was not smooth—it was a journey marked by multiple attempts, emotional resilience, and constant self-motivation. Many of the toppers took their second or third attempts to succeed, and emphasized that perseverance, structured preparation, and mental strength are critical to staying the course.

The UPSC CSE 2024 results send a strong message to all aspirants: that gender, academic stream, or background is no barrier to success if one remains committed and focused. The outstanding performance of women this year also marks a significant moment in the evolution of India’s civil services, reflecting a more inclusive and empowered future.

As India welcomes a new batch of civil servants, the stories of these achievers will surely inspire millions to pursue public service with passion and purpose.
