Roshni Nadar Becomes First Indian Woman to Enter Global Top 10 Richest Women List – Ranked 5th in 2025

In a remarkable milestone that has made waves across India and the global business world, Roshni Nadar, chairperson of HCL Technologies, has become the first Indian woman to enter the top 10 list of the world’s richest women. According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, Roshni now ranks 5th globally, with an estimated net worth of ₹3.5 lakh crore (approximately $40 billion) — a staggering figure that reflects not just inherited wealth but her growing influence in the global tech and corporate space.

Her rise to the top comes after her father, Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL, transferred a 47% stake in the company to her, placing Roshni at the heart of one of India’s most powerful tech conglomerates. But this achievement is about far more than just numbers. It symbolizes a turning point for Indian women in leadership, setting a powerful precedent for generations of female entrepreneurs and executives in India.

As the head of a $48 billion tech enterprise, Roshni Nadar isn’t just a figurehead — she actively drives strategic decisions and oversees critical areas of the company’s future, including its CSR initiatives. Her impact, however, goes far beyond the boardroom. A graduate of Northwestern University and an MBA holder from Kellogg School of Management, she has received multiple accolades, including the Schaffner Award in 2023 for her contributions to society and education.

Through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, where she serves as a trustee, Roshni plays a key role in managing over $1.2 billion worth of philanthropic initiatives, many of which are focused on education. Her passion project, VidyaGyan, is a residential school for gifted students from underprivileged backgrounds in Uttar Pradesh — an effort that has been transforming young lives since its inception.

Beyond business and philanthropy, Roshni also contributes to global platforms. She sits on the Dean’s Advisory Council at MIT School of Engineering and the global board of The Nature Conservancy, showing her commitment to both innovation and environmental sustainability. In recognition of her remarkable leadership, she was awarded France’s Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2024 and has consistently featured on Forbes’ Most Powerful Women list since 2017.

The 2025 Hurun report reflects a larger global trend — the rising presence of women in ultra-high-net-worth categories. A total of 561 women made the cut this year, with 224 of them being self-made billionaires. This shift highlights not just changing attitudes, but the undeniable impact women are making in technology, finance, and enterprise. Alongside Roshni, the list includes global names like Alice Walton, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, Julia Koch, and Jacqueline Mars, all of whom hold assets exceeding $30 billion.

What makes Roshni’s story even more special is how she blends wealth with responsibility. While her financial leap was sparked by a stake transfer, it’s her visionary thinking, leadership style, and deep commitment to impact that have earned her global respect. Her presence in the elite billionaire circle isn’t just about breaking into a list — it’s about reshaping the image of Indian women in business, proving that legacy, leadership, and social good can coexist.

As online searches for terms like “Roshni Nadar richest woman 2025,” “HCL Technologies owner,” and “Top 10 richest women in the world” surge, her name has quickly become a trending topic on Google and social media. Her story resonates because it’s not just about numbers — it’s about what those numbers represent: years of effort, social commitment, and the power of inclusive leadership.

In an era where the conversation around wealth is increasingly about purpose and positive influence, Roshni Nadar’s ascent is a beacon of what modern leadership should look like. Her journey is a compelling example of how women are no longer just participants in the economy — they are becoming its architects.
