Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, widely recognized as The Rebel Kid, has once again found herself at the center of digital controversy—this time not just over personal comments but also her appearance on a now-removed episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina. The episode in question featured YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who made a sexist joke referencing parents and sex, drawing immense backlash from viewers. The insensitive remark quickly went viral, prompting severe criticism across platforms and eventually leading to the episode being taken down from the internet.
Amid the chaos, Apoorva tried to clear the air through a heartfelt YouTube video in which she shared her side of the story and reflected on her journey through recent controversies. However, the video sparked fresh drama when she briefly mentioned a “friend who was doing black magic” on her. Without naming anyone, the comment triggered widespread speculation, with many netizens assuming she was referring to her long-time best friend, Rida Tharana.
The backlash against Rida was immediate. Once celebrated for their strong friendship, Rida and Apoorva’s bond came under scrutiny as fans criticized Rida for her prior silence during Apoorva’s India’s Got Latent fallout. This silence, coupled with the vague “black magic” reference, led many to conclude that Rida was the person in question—resulting in waves of online hate directed at her.
In response, Apoorva took to Instagram on April 13, 2025, to publicly defend her friend and shut down the rumors. In a written statement shared via Instagram stories, she said:
“After my video, there have been a lot of assumptions and a lot of hate going around. As much as I appreciate you guys having my back, this is the last thing I wanted. I wanted to share my story and my feelings—nothing more. So let’s please not jump to conclusions or spread negativity.”
To further reinforce her message, she also posted a warm photo of herself with Rida, making it clear that their friendship remains strong and unshaken.

Apoorva and Rida have long been admired as a duo—appearing in vlogs, vacations, and social media snippets that showcased their genuine bond. Their sudden involvement in a swirl of misunderstanding reflects the fragility of influencer narratives in the digital age, where vague statements can trigger a storm of cancel culture and online hate.
This dual controversy—first involving Ranveer Allahbadia’s sexist joke and second, the misinterpretation of Apoorva’s “black magic” reference—has raised larger questions about responsibility in digital content, the ethics of influencer storytelling, and how online assumptions can lead to real-world harm. From a misjudged joke to a misunderstood friendship, both incidents reveal how quickly online narratives escalate beyond control.
As for Apoorva, her message is clear: the goal was never to incite blame, but simply to share her truth. She closed her Instagram note with a sincere plea to her followers to avoid negativity and focus on compassion.
